Interested in good preschool education for your child? Our kindergarten is the right decision!
Picture a 3-year-old singing a counting song in English, then in Spanish, then in Korean. At this age, kids soak up new sounds through songs and play, not drills.
That’s the idea behind our language program. Families from Paramus, Fort Lee, and across Bergen County choose it for that reason. Here’s how it works.
At JJ Paramus Day Care, our teachers are fluent in English, Spanish, and Korean, and foreign language lessons are part of our curriculum. Below, you’ll see how our language program works, what research says about learning two languages, and why it matters for families across Bergen County.
How our language program works
Young children pick up language by hearing it in real moments. So we mix new words into the things kids already love to do.
⭐️ Songs and music
Many first words come from songs kids sing again and again. Singing the same song in a new language makes the words feel familiar. See our Music Enrichment program.
⭐️ Games and play
Counting, colors, and greetings fit easily into play. Kids learn the words while they’re busy having fun.
⭐️ Stories
Picture books and interactive storytelling bring new words to life. Kids connect the words to the pictures on the page.
⭐️ Culture
Kids explore the places and traditions behind each language through art, music, and stories. It helps them see that other languages belong to real people and places.
Will learning more than one language slow my child's speech?
It’s the most common question we hear from parents. The short answer is no.
What the research shows
An article in The ASHA Leader, the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association’s magazine, explains that learning two languages generally doesn’t cause language delays. A 2024 review in Frontiers in Psychology notes that children learning one or two languages reach language milestones at similar ages. Some bilingual kids do have speech delays, just like some kids who speak one language, but the second language isn’t the cause.
If you're worried about speech
Talk with your pediatrician if you have concerns. There’s no need to drop the language you speak at home.
A Paramus daycare for Korean-speaking families
Bergen County is home to New Jersey’s largest Korean American community. Many of those families live a short drive from our center.
Bergen County's Korean community
About 62,000 Korean Americans live in Bergen County. That includes more than 10,000 in Palisades Park and nearly 9,000 in Fort Lee, according to a Korean American Grassroots Conference analysis of Census data.
A teacher who speaks your language
Many families want a teacher who can speak their child’s home language. Our teachers are fluent in Korean, as well as English and Spanish. Keeping the home language strong while English grows is a goal for many families.
Coming from Fort Lee
If you’re coming from Fort Lee, we’re about 11 miles away by car. Route 4 connects the two towns directly.
