What Questions Should I Ask a Daycare I’m Interviewing?

Preschool and Daycare in Paramus, NJ | Blog - Questions to Ask When Choosing a Daycare

Having a childcare center that is smoothly running involves the cooperation of different stakeholders. You may be wondering what truly makes the daycare run that effectively. Most of the time, you are not taking your kids there, and you won’t be able to get the answer. The best thing you would do is find some time and visit the child care centers near you to learn about what happens there. In order to get the proper response, you need to ask the right question to whoever you will find at the daycare. Here are some of the questions that you can ask during the interview.

Do You Have the License to Operate?

Before you do anything, first consider the credibility of the child care facility you are interviewing. Many child care facilities are being run at various parts of the towns, especially with the parents being busy and not having time to take care of their children.

However, some of them are operating illegally, and this could be dangerous to the children being taken there. In this case, you need to determine whether the facility you are visiting has been licensed. Once the facility has been approved, all the essential factors have been considered and checked.

How much is the cost of the Child Care Service?

Once you are confident that the pre-school care is operating legally, ask about the cost of the preschool facility. It would be best if you asked for the cost of the child care. Some of the child centers that have been established do charge exorbitant prices, yet they offer substandard services.

In this case, you should be able to compare the cost of the facility to whether it is worth the services. After you are aware of the prices of these centers, you can advise people who are close to you, such as family and friends, on whether they should consider it.

What Does the Daily Routine Look Like?

Another important question that you should ask is the kind of activities there every day. You could be seeing people taking their children to professional child caregivers, but you don’t know what happens once they are there.

Child care doesn’t only revolve around taking care of the children. There is a whole range of activities that the young ones tend to do when they arrive in the morning. During the interview, it is the perfect chance to understand the main activities that the children do there.

What is the Hardest Thing About This Job?

Not every job is a smooth sail, as there are ups and downs from time to time. Working in daycare is not an exception to this. Dealing with different children alone seems to be a bigger challenge. Thus, during the interview, ensure that part of your questions is to ask the service providers what are some of the greatest challenges they experience. Also, ensure that you ask them how they manage to get through those challenges.

What Kind of Meals Do You Give to Children?

The kind of food that the little ones consume is the most critical aspect of their development. A children’s care facility needs to pay attention to the meal these kids are offered because it plays a role in improving their health.

Some facilities are not cautious about the diet as they provide what is available. In this case, some children are malnourished while attending some of these daycares that you see in town. Therefore, it is essential to be aware of the children’s meals.

How Many Staff Do You Have?

Dealing with a child is never an easy task. Sometimes, you may be overwhelmed by one child. Such a scenario makes you wonder about those dealing with several children. Most of these centers have to hire more staff to look after these children. While conducting your interview, don’t fail to inquire how many staff members are present at the facility you have visited. Moreover, it would be ideal for you to ask what are some of the roles each of the staff members performs within the daycare.

What are the Security Measures You have Developed?

You can’t fail to understand the security measures developed within a child care facility. The safety of the children should be what parents need to be guaranteed before they take them to a particular daycare. As you are interviewing some of the staff, be keen to ask about the security measures they have in place.

These measures could include how the children are picked and how they know the right person has picked them. Another factor you should ask while seeking to see the security is the policy on how they allow people into the facility. Not every person coming into a facility has the right intention. Therefore, there should be ways to prevent many people from getting into these centers.

What is the Policy on Discipline?

Some children going into daycare may be old enough to know what they are doing. In this case, some of them tend to commit certain mistakes. However, you must understand the discipline approaches that the facility has in place to prevent such children from making the same mistakes over and over.

When you are looking for a place to take care of your child, you need to be sure that you won’t regret it. In this case, it is good that you meet some of the facility’s staff; you intend to ask them a few questions. Once you get your answers, you will then choose if it is the right place for your kid.
